The Coromandel Peninsula lies to the east of Auckland, on the other side of the Hauraki Gulf, and has an estimated population of just under 27,000 people.

Coromandel’s fascinating history is evident in gold mining, logging dams and ancient Maori pa’s (fortified village). The past is also visible in the colonial architecture and historical buildings that have been preserved in several towns around the region.
