Piha Beach Another of Aucklands popular West Coast Surf Beach- approx 25 min from the CBD.
The Beach is on the Western side of New Zealands North Island so is exposed to big surf waves from all the way across the Tasman sea to Australia.
This gives the beach fine soft sand, and strong surf waves. This can make the surf dangerous with rip currents dragging the unwary along the coast, or even out to sea.
